 Advertising

We define advertising as a non-personal and paid communication, promoting ideas, goods or services, carried out by an identified promoter.

The first characteristic of advertising is to be Communication. Therefore there is an Emitter, a Message, a Means and a Receivers. Advertising tries to communicate a message using different means of communication.

Advertising is Paid communication. If a newspaper talks about our company in an article, it's not about advertising. If the newspaper in a story or an article quotes us, it will be because our company has generated a story.

We differentiate the work of Public Relations from what is Advertising. One of the typical activities of Public Relations is to make our company appear in the media and appear positively. A job of the Public Relations department is to send press releases and relevant information to newspapers, radio and television about our organization.

Promotion of ideas, goods or services. Advertising tries to promote and therefore facilitate the work of bringing those ideas, goods or services to citizens.

Usually when it comes to advertising, the first thing you think about is product advertising.

Product Advertising. It is true that an important part of advertising is product advertising. Car, detergent or perfume advertising is a good example of product advertising.

Services are becoming increasingly important in modern economies. Banks, hospitals, universities, lawyers offer services to society. As a country's income rises a more important part of the economy is services.

Banks or credit card organizations like Visa advertise their banking services.

Another example of service advertising is for example when phone companies advertise their services.

And there is also an advertisement that tries to promote Ideas. Advertising campaigns against tobacco, those of the Directorate General of Traffic for drivers to be cautious or anti-drug campaigns are examples of promoting ideas.

Another issue is that some of the anti-drug campaigns are examples of bad publicity and sometimes it is not known whether they are for or against. The following example is a good campaign against drug use.
